  • The Wayne County Courthouse

    The Wayne County Courthouse is a historic government building in FairfieldIllinois.  Built in the 1890’s, the Courthouse is the central location for the day-to-day business of the County Government.  The Wayne County Historical Society funded and exhibit of 40 historical photographs spanning from the 1800s through the 1960s.  These photographs are mounted in a permanent exhibit in the main hallways of the courthouse.

  • Atkinson Forest State Habitat Area

  • The Hanna House Museum

    Fairfield was laid out as a town in 1819, on land donated by the Barnhill family.  The Wayne County Historical Society showcases local history exhibits from Fairfield and the surrounding areas at The Hanna House Museum.  The museum is located in a lovely 1874 home.  Exhibits include early history from the 1800s through 1920s, military and civic events, the Shelton gang, the oil boom, sports, country stores, churches, and much more.  The Hanna House Museum is open Saturdays, April through October,10 a.m.--2 p.m. except on holidays. 

     

  • Sam Dale Lake State Conservation Area

    Gently rolling terrain, lush woods and a beautiful lake make the Sam Dale Lake State Conservation Area the perfect spot for outdoor adventure. This 1,302-acre park is located northwest of Johnsonville in Wayne County and it has something for everyone: hiking, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and more. Visitors may see quail, rabbit, dove, squirrel, deer, muskrat, fox, raccoon, owls, turkey, hawk, wood cock or beaver roaming the timber or brushy fields of the park. The highlight of a visit is the Sam Dale Lake, a beautiful 194-acre lake with 5 miles of shoreline trails to enjoy or explore. Same Dale Lake Conservation Area is a quick 30 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Cedarhurst Center for the Arts

    Cedarhurst Center for the Arts & The Mitchell Museum are best known for their significant collection of late 19th and early 20th century American paintings, exhibitions featuring regional and international artists, a 90 acre sculpture park, and an annual Art & Craft Fair held the weekend after Labor Day.  This wonderful art and sculpture center is a 50 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Leo French Park

    The City of Fairfield has three parks offering 100s of acres of recreational park opportunities. Leo French Park, the largest in the entire county, has baseball diamonds and an Olympic size swimming pool. Situated on rolling wooded acreage it features a small lake that is home for many geese, ducks and swans that enjoy the treats brought to them by visitors. The lake is also surrounded by a paved walking path and serves as a breathtaking background for the annual candlelight Relay For Life project. During the Christmas Holiday Season Leo French Park is the location for Fairfield's Festival of Lights. The park with its well-designed sports segments and scenic lake is comparable to larger city parks and well worth the trip to see.

  • Olive Branch School

    This one-room school was donated by a local family and moved to the Leo French City Park in the 1960s. The Olive Branch School was repaired and repurposed as a museum in memory of the more than 150 rural schools that once dotted the county.  The interior was repainted, black boards reinstalled, maps and prints hung, school desks aligned and a a long-term exhibit of photographs was installed.  The school is owned and maintained by the Fairfield Park District.  Check with the Wayne County Historical Society for open exhibit days.  

  • Beall Woods State Park

    Located on the banks of the Wabash River in southeastern Illinois, Beall Woods State Park attracts visitors from around the world who are interested in experiencing one of the few remaining tracts of virgin timber east of the Mississippi River. At Beall Woods, visitors can see trees 120 feet tall and more than 3 feet in diameter.  Beall Woods is a quick 40 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Fairfield Public Golf Course

    The Fairfield Public Golf Course is a 10 Hole Golf Course in Southeastern IL with affordable memberships, green fees and daily cart rates.  The Golf Course offer leagues, tournaments, activities and fun for all ages.

  • Early History Exhibit at the Fairfield Public Library

    The Wayne County Early History Museum is located in a room connected to the Fairfield Public Library.  The exhibits include Civil War artifacts, early Fairfield scenes and clothing, WWI memorabilia, the Sexton Factory photos, and lots more!  Check with the Wayne County Historical Society for exhibit hours.  

  • Rend Lake Antique Mall

    The Rend Lake Antique Mall is a 12,000 square feet building right off 1-57 in Ina, Illinois.  Multiple antique dealers showcase a large selection of antiques, collectibles, furniture and decor items.  This large antique mall is approx. an hour drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Burnt Prairie Grand Antiques

    The Burnt Prairie Grand Antique Mall is a 6,000 square foot building in Burnt Prairie, Illinois.  The mall features a large selection of antiques, collectibles, decor and furniture.  This antique lovers paradise is a 20 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • New Harmony

    New Harmony, Indiana, located on the banks of the Wabash River, was founded in 1814 by a group of 800 Pietists from Württemburg, Germany.  It was a spiritual sanctuary that later became a haven for international scientists, scholars, and educators who sought equality in communal living.  The town was made a national historic district in 1965.  Today, New Harmony is a thriving tourist destination and it is only a 45 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Pheasant Hollow Winery

    Pheasant Hollow Winery has spent more than 16 years perfecting 16+ different Southern Illinois wines and building a reputation of excellence with its award winning wines and special events.  The winery sits on 5 acres of scenic woodlands on the eastern side of Rend Lake. On a quiet day, sit on the oversized wrap around deck with friends and sample the unique country wines. At one of Pheasant Hollow’s festivals, be part of a group to enjoy the music, great food and of course the wines.  Pheasant Hollow  has been home to the Annual Cajun Festival for 16 years. Pheasant Hollow Winery is only a 50 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Berryville Vineyard

    Berryville Vineyard is nestled between Mulberry Hill and the town of Berryville. The growers use only hand-picked grapes grown on site to make their wines. The tasting rooms at Berryville Vineyards  are open seasonally from May-October and the growing season culminates with a Harvestfest in mid October.  The Vineyard is a short 50 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.  

  • Fox Creek Vineyards & Winery

    The Fox Creek Vineyards is a small family vineyard & winery. They grow 9 varieties of grapes and they prune, pick, craft & bottle by hand on their estate. All fruit for their fruit wines is sourced as locally as possible.  The tasting rooms are open on the weekend and by appointment during the week.  The Fox Creek Vineyard & Winery  is only a 45 minute drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Lasata Wines

    Lasata is an Indian word meaning a place of peace. The Lasata Winery is located in a peaceful wooded setting on scenic highway 33. It is a wonderful place to sit and have a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery.  Lasata Wines creates a variety of wines, including a Sweet Blush, Dry White, Dry Red, and Sweet Whites and is about an hour from The Victorian on Main. 
     

  • Carter Athletic Academy

    The Carter Athletic Academy is a 10,000 square feet climate controlled facility that is capable of holding many types of athletic activities, including football, baseball, volleyball and soccer. A two-level viewing area is available for all parents and guests. Reservations are open to travel teams, school teams, and individuals who wish to better improve their athletic ability.

  • Rend Lake and The Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area

    Rend Lake and The Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area are located in beautiful Southern Illinois.  A natural haven for wildlife and a recreational haven for visitors, Rend Lake consists of 19,000 acres of water and 20,000 acres of land.  The park offers outstanding opportunities for boating, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking and other outdoor recreational pursuits.  Rend Lake is only an hour drive from The Victorian on Main.

  • Shreves Pumpkin & Strawberry Patch

    All are welcome here at Shreves Pumpkin Patch. Shreves is a family-owned-and-operated business that is a short 15 minute drive from The Victorian on Main. Pumpkins, strawberries, corn maze, child-sized hay bale maze, pre-picked produce, snacks, and picnic areas. Crops are usually available in May-June and September-October.  Check for seasonal times/days at Shreves.
